What is PLA?
PLA (Polylactic Acid) is the most widely used 3D printing filament in the world, and for good reason: it is made from renewable natural resources such as corn starch or sugar cane. Unlike petro-sourced plastics, PLA is biodegradable under industrial conditions, making it a consistent choice for brands concerned about their environmental impact.

Advantages of PLA
- Ease of printing: it is the simplest filament to use, with little warping and good bed adhesion — ideal for precise and detailed parts.
- Aesthetic rendering: smooth surface, bright and true colors, neat finish without complex post-processing.
- Eco-friendly: made from renewable resources, it produces little odor during printing and does not require an enclosed chamber.

Disadvantages of PLA
- Heat sensitivity: this is its main limitation. PLA starts to deform at 55-60°C, which makes it unsuitable for hot environments (car dashboard in summer, proximity to a heat source, dishwasher).
- Relative fragility: less impact resistant than ABS or PETG. It can crack under strong mechanical stress.
- Slow biodegradation under natural conditions: despite its plant origin, PLA only decomposes effectively in industrial composting (temperature > 60°C, controlled humidity).
- Humidity sensitivity: PLA filament absorbs ambient moisture, which can degrade print quality if poorly stored.
